We are delighted to announce further details of United Response’s Opening up Democracy event, which takes place on July 5th. Jenny Watson, chief executive of the Electoral Commission, will join senior MPs from across the parties in a discussion of how politicians can make democracy accessible to all, including those with learning disabilities, low literacy or who speak English as a second language.
This lunchtime event will be held at Westminster between 1 and 2.30PM. As well as hearing from senior MPs how important it is to engage with all constituents at all times, and not just for elections, MPs will be given practical guidance on how they can let everyone they represent know about the work they do on their behalf, by embracing simpler, more straightforward and more visual communications, whether online or in print.
Invites have already been sent out to most MPs. However, if you have not received one and would like to attend Opening up Democracy, please contact james.robinson@unitedresponse.org.uk of our press department.
Jaime Gill, press and public affairs manager.
