Crescent Road is located in a long road of urban housing – which ranges from multi-millionaire homes to bed sits. The service has been a registered care home to 6 people, supported by United Response, for the last 18 years.

Everyone there leads full and interesting lives but the staff were aware that, even though they had very good relationships with the people living either side of the property, they did not know the rest of their neighbours.

So they came up with an inspirational idea, which the people they support really liked. They started a ‘Living Eggs’ http://www.livingeggs.co.uk/ project – which involves incubating and hatching a group of eggs, before returning the chicks to a farm.

They then hand delivered invitations to every house on their street, to come along to meet all the people supported and staff, and see the chicks hatching over the period of ten days.

It was a huge success and they now get warmly greeted by neighbours whenever they go out. It’s really helped the people at the service make a connection with their neighbours and feel more a part of the community.
