Our mission is to enable people with learning disabilities, mental health needs and physical disabilities to take control of their lives. Our vision is a society where disabled people are equal participants and have access to the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.
We respect and promote the rights of every person we support and we will do all that we can to enable positive and constructive, on-going relationships with family members and others important to them.
As a not for profit organisation and a registered charity, you can have confidence in knowing that we are committed to working to improve the lives of the people we support. We do this through a person-centred approach, putting people at the centre of all our activity, but also through speaking up and speaking out alongside people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health needs.
As a charity, we can fundraise for additional projects and programmes that really add value to people’s lives. This could be providing accessible communications equipment, developing sensory gardens, or developing innovative resources to help people take control of their lives.
We campaign around issues that are important to and for the people that we support. We do this in our own right and as members of the Learning Disability Coalition, the Voluntary Organisations’ Disability Group and many other local and national groups.
If you would like to get involved visit our campaigns section.
Our mission will be achieved through building and sustaining a culture which promotes equality and the right of all individuals to be treated with dignity and respect, valuing diversity and celebrating the talents of the people we support and our colleagues. Any form of discrimination or prejudice will not be tolerated.
We will, therefore:
- Uphold and promote our belief that all individuals have the right to be treated with dignity and that each of us has a responsibility to treat others with respect
- Work together with the people we support, our colleagues and all partners and community groups to establish practices which express our values of diversity
- Endeavour to ensure that our facilities, resources and services are responsive, relevant and accessible to all who wish to access them
- Create and sustain environments which encourage both the people we support and our colleagues to develop to their full potential.
