United Response Changing Lives
Employment
Supporting people to have greater involvement in their local communities and to be truly included in all aspects of community life is central to the ethos of United Response. We know from the people we support that many people consider loneliness and isolation to be their “real disability”. We want to support people to access opportunities in their communities and live an “ordinary” and valued life.
Of course, one of the most effective - and real - ways for people to be included and to build relationships in their communities is through work. We believe that everyone has the right to participate fully in society - and for many people that means having a paid job. Having a job can make a real difference to a person’s life. It can help someone become more independent, as well as build confidence and start new friendships.
Many of the people we support
want to work. We work with
them to find out what they want
to do, to build their skills, and to
access opportunities available.
We now run a number of
employment-specific projects
including a supported
employment service for people
with learning disabilities in
Trafford and a skills development
and work preparation training
project funded by the Department
of Health.
