United Response Changing Lives

Learning Disability

One size doesn't fit all

United Response provides support to adults with learning disabilities or mental health needs. We support people in the community in many localities, working in partnership with local authorities, health professionals and families to support people to live the lives they choose.

Set up over 30 years ago with just one house in West Sussex, we have grown organically and now support over 1,500 people in England. The last 18 months have shown particular growth, with over £6million worth of new business, including our first contract in South Wales.

But, despite this level of growth, our ethos and values remain unchanged: at UR our approach centres on each person. People have different needs and like different things. We treat people as individuals, with different personalities, interests and goals, designing our support around them and - crucially - changing and adapting our support to respond to their changing needs and wants.

Ultimately, our aim is to help people to take control of their lives and to do the things they want to do, whether this is getting a job, developing new skills, making new friends or being a part of their local community. We also aim to give people a platform - supporting people to speak out, both individually, through advocacy and communications work, and collectively, in our wider work.
