Our Future is the second report led by United Response’s Campaigns Panel.
Life Support, the first report from the Campaigns Panel talked about what good support means to them. The report showed that care and support can make a difference to every area of a person’s life, from basic household tasks to playing a part in their local communities.
Since the publication of Life Support, the Government set out its proposals for reforming care and support in a White Paper and Draft Care and Support Bill. The Campaigns Panel looked at some of those reforms and in Our Future they explained what they thought is good and what still needs to change.
Overall, the Campaigns Panel felt that the reforms were good and will help to fix some of the biggest problems with the current system. However, people were worried about how the reforms will be funded as many people are already afraid of losing their support and benefits. Without a long term solution to the funding of care, reforms will have little impact.
As the agenda on the reform of care and support moved forward, the Campaigns Panel called on the Government to make sure that the voices of disabled people were at the heart of the debate.
Two years on from the publication of the report, we looked again at what the Panel asked for and what the Government is doing to reform care and support.
