Age knows no bounds
One man who doesn’t see age as an issue is relief support worker, Leo Burch. Last year, Leo completed a five-year quest to cycle and walk of the length of Britain – at 75 years old
Leo works part-time at Ashcroft Road in Ipswich. He first decided to start his energetic adventure on his 70th birthday.
Leo says: “I used to be a racing cyclist and have run marathons. On my birthday, I decided it would be satisfying to travel the full length of Britain using leg power!
I have always enjoyed small personal challenges and wasn’t concerned about how long it would take me.
There were so many highs – seal watching in Caithness, the Mediterranean weather in St Ives…but then again, there were lows. I had to do a 23 miles walk in heavy rain in Yorkshire.”
All in all, Leo cycled 1,200 miles and walked 250 miles over a five year period. Leo – you really do prove that age is nothing but a number!
