Volunteer for the Olympics opening ceremony

The Olympics opening ceremony takes place on July 27th 2012, with English filmmaker Danny Boyle taking the role of creative director.

The organisers have put out a nationwide casting call, looking for 10,000 volunteers to take part in the spectacular.

We believe this is a huge opportunity for people with disabilities – many of whom are still marginalised – to participate in a global event and illustrate the diversity of Great Britain.

So, if you would like your moment in history, we urge you to put your name forward as a volunteer for the opening ceremony. It’s easy, just visit the London 2012 website. Hurry though – applications close on August 31st.

Things to consider beforehand
Do remember that these are volunteer roles – so there will be no pay. Also, there is a substantial commitment, financially and in terms of your time. The first stage of the process is travelling to an audition in London, and you will be expected to pay your way.

After this, from March until June, there will be regular rehearsals in evenings and at weekends in London, with the organisers – regrettably – unable to repay expenses for travel outside of London.

If you think this will be impossible, you may not wish to put your name forward, but could instead consider nominating yourself as an Olympic Torch Bearer since the relay spans the whole of the country.

If you can commit to being an opening ceremony volunteer, however, we wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearing about your Olympic adventures.
