Call to action! Please do your bit to support the Every Vote Counts campaign and send a letter to your MP requesting accessible information for all on voting.
United Response has produced a simple letter template that stresses the importance of making voting easier, not just for people with learning disabilities, but for everyone. It references the findings of the Every Vote Counts report, which suggest that more than half a million potential voters are missing out because they find political websites, manifestos and election leaflets complex and full of jargon.
The letter prompts MPs to visit the Every Vote Counts website for tips on making election information accessible. It also encourages them to sign Early Day Motion 383, which argues that “local authorities, political parties and central government should produce accessible material in relation to electoral matters” in order to give people with learning disabilities their democratic rights.
All you have to do is download the template, fill in a few simple details (such as your address and the date) and send the document to your MP.
