Diane Lightfoot, United Response’s director of communications and fundraising, spoke at fringe events at all of 2008′s party conferences.
She discussed how welfare reform could affect employment prospects for people with learning disabilities, alongside Citizens Advice Bureau and senior political figures, including ministers and shadow ministers.
Diane explains, “Like Citizen’s Advice, the hosts of the event, we’re concerned that some groups are being overlooked by the welfare reform agenda, and we want the government to think again about how best to support people into work. It’s a great opportunity to get involved in discussions with influential people from all the main parties, like James Purnell, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Andrew Selous, the Conservative shadow work and pensions minister, and Jenny Willott, the Liberal Democrat shadow work and pensions secretary.”
Epolitix has an interview on its website with Diane on what United Response hoped to achieve at these events. Go to the interview on the Epolitix website
