Gillian has 4 sons and 8 grandchildren. She has been working for United Response for 5 years.

Before that, she spent most of her working life as a secretary for a flower nursery.

She heard about United Response from someone who worked with us and they suggested she applied for a job.
Gillian said that as soon as she arrived for her interview, she knew it was the right place for her.

She is contracted to work one day and one night but often works more than that. Gillian likes the day shifts as she gets to spend more time with the residents.

She supports people to cook, go shopping, collect their pension and just about anything else they want to do.

Gillian enjoys being the keyworker for a lady who is roughly the same age as her.

Gillian says, "It's not hard, you just need to understand people and have patience.
Gillian said, "I just wish I had come here earlier. The residents always come first and It's great spending time doing things with them.

Gillian said, "Some of the residents really like making things with pressed flowers. We mostly make birthday cards but sometimes we create dried-flower arrangements. I hope that we will be able to go to a craft fair next year."

Gillian says that flexible working hours are very important to her.

Gillian said, "My husband is very supportive. If I work the 8am - 2pm shift, then I have the afternoon and evening at home, so it works out really well."

When asked why she chose to work for United Response, Gillian said, "I get so much out of my job. I enjoy seeing people enjoy themselves. It's the most rewarding job that I have ever done. When you get to a certain age, you can be more flexible about when you work, if your family is grown up."

She said, "I didn't think I could I do it. But the minute I came for the interview and met the residents, I could feel the warmth. I was so pleased when they offered me the job. If you're interested, you should definitely apply."

Gillian would encourage anyone thinking about applying for a job with United Response to give it a go.
