Two thirds of people with learning disabilities want to work.
10th April 2008

Two thirds of people with learning disabilities want to work.

Only one in five people with learning disabilities are given the opportunity to work.

United Response is hosting an event which looks at why it is difficult for people with learning disabilities to find work.

This event takes place on 15th May in London.

No one else has put on an event like this before.

Phil Hope from the Government and Susan Scott Parker from the Employer's Forum On Disability are two of the main speakers.

Employers and employees will be telling their own stories too.

The event is sponsored by Unum.

The first part of the event will be a Business Breakfast where employers will talk about what they do now to support people into work and what more they can do in the future.

The second part of the event will look at one of United Response's supported employment schemes. People will talk about what was good about the scheme and what didn't work so well.
There will also be a discussion about Government policy and what can be done to make supported employment schemes a success.
