The Skills4Action team recruits people over 16 with learning disabilities and mental health needs.

The Skills4Action team finds new people to take part in the project from ordinary schools and colleges.

The team looks at what each person is interested in. It asks people what they would like to be able to do.

Each person gets their own learning plan.

The learning plan is about how the person would like to learn, and what skills will be useful for them to have.

The training is delivered locally.
The training is designed to be easy to understand.
United Response is good at making training easy to understand for people with learning disabilities and mental health needs.

Each person who takes part gets a certificate.

There are lots of different kinds of training including:
Health and Safety
Customer Care
Stress Awareness
Emergency Aid
Personal Effectiveness

The Skills4Action team then looks at Work Skills Experience. This is so the person can use their new skills.

The training is in small groups. It trains people in Learning New Skills, Making New Friends, Working in a Team and Working Safely.

Our volunteers are local and are managed by the Skills4Action team.

The volunteers are trained to be able to offer one-to-one support to the people taking part in the project.
This can can be good work experience for the volunteers too.

A steering group makes sure the Skills4Action project works well with other local activities.

The Skills4Action team often checks their training to make sure it is the best it can be. They tell the steering group about the results of the checks.

The Skills4Action team wants to make links with other groups who provide supported employment.
This will mean there are more chances for people with learning disabilities or mental health needs.
