He has a severe learning disability. It is sometimes difficult for him to engage in activities.

David’s support workers have always found it difficult to engage David in things.

But they have used Person-centred Active Support to find ways to help him become more engaged.

plan

Staff have worked one-to-one with David.

They know that if they plan activities in advance, speak less and use objects instead of words, David can be more involved.

thumbs up

Staff have seen that David has more skills than 2 or 3 years ago.

He is also engaging more.

David takes part in jobs around the house now. He does the laundry and puts rubbish bins out.

He buys groceries and lays the table. He carries plates and wipes the table.

He has also become more confident.

David has given permission for his story and photograph to be used.
