Jack’s Journey was produced by people we support at the Oakfield day service in Liverpool.
It’s an animated film that aims to raise awareness about the problems some disabled people face when using public transport. It looks at the potential issues that can arise and how they can be overcome, by cooperation between transport companies and transport users.
The idea for the film was developed at a Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) workshop by a whole mix of people involved with, and affected by, the transport system in Liverpool.
Tina Read of Illumination Educational Software helped the Oakfield team produce the film, with funding provided by the WEA. Jack’s Journey has gone on to be used by transport companies in the area to train staff and raise awareness on the topic.
In addition, on October 16, the film was shown at Liverpool Day in Shanghai, as part of the Chinese city’s World Expo, where it was presented by Denise Barr and Linda Owens from Oakfield Day Service, along with Tina Read, Neil Scales, chief executive of Merseytravel and the leader of Liverpool City Council, Joe Anderson.
You can watch the version shown at the Shanghai Expo (including Mandarin subtitles!) on the WEA website.
