United Response helps people take control of their lives and engage as fully as possible with their environment and community.
That’s why our latest appeal is for sensory equipment, which can really help the people we support connect with their environment.
Donate to the Sensory Equipment appeal now.
Many people with disabilities face challenges such as visual and/or hearing impairments, restricted mobility, and difficulties with concentration and communication, all of which can lead to a sense of isolation and disengagement.
According to one support worker at our Maidstone service in Kent:
“For someone who has a dual sensory impairment (both visual and hearing loss) the majority of their sensory experiences occur as a result of an outside force acting upon them, such as their support worker touching or moving them. In essence, with profound sensory loss and complex needs, individuals may often experience their world as a passive recipient only.”
Sensory equipment can help transform this, by allowing people with complex needs to understand and interact with their environment, develop confidence and self-esteem, as well as enjoy an enhanced quality of life.
For our new appeal we are asking you to help us purchase equipment to encourage and stimulate multi-sensory experiences.
Here are some examples of how your donation could make a real difference for the people we support:
- £10 - Aromatherapy Dough Ball. Releases aromatherapy oils when moulded, providing olfactory stimulation in response to touch
- £20 – Big Button Phone. Aids communication and relationship building through independent use of the phone
- £50 – Sound Responsive Unit. Flashes three lights along with any noise, encouraging vocalisation and participation
- £100 – Laser Star Projector. Creates a rotating night sky projection, encouraging concentration.
Just a small contribution can add real value to people’s lives, so why not donate now?
