Jelly beans keep Charlene going
Charlene Tooth, aged 27, from Clapham, used some unorthodox methods in her training to run in the Flora London Marathon for United Response.
Her running partner started bribing her to make sure that she could go the distance on 22nd April.
Charlene said:
“I had not run more than 5km until recently and this is the challenge of a life time. It sounds simple, I know, but let me tell you it is soul searching. The most amazing experience is when you finish a long run and you can say ‘wow – I just finished 15 kilometres.
“I am running two or three times a week, with my long run on a Saturday morning at 7am. It takes commitment as I’m trying to eat very healthy food, although I’ve been known to eat the occasional jelly bean during long runs as my running partner bribes me with them!
“The reason I chose United Response is a lady called Elle. She was the daughter of my best friend at school and was diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome. She was an amazing person but was limited in what she could do, and I only wonder what kind of impact could have been made if she had the type of support that United Response offers
“My target is to raise £1500 for United Response - which is going to be a challenge as my family and friends are all in Australia so any help/donation will be much appreciated!”
