Working with Families
We are committed to working with the families of the people we support. We aim to form a partnership that respects everyone's roles, skills and responsibilities.
Rights of the people we support
We support people to make informed choices and to take control of their lives. We will support people to achieve the family relationships they want.
Respect for families
We value the knowledge and expertise of families. We create opportunities for people to discuss their role in a person's life. We listen to people and do everything we can to make sure:
- people feel involved and welcomed
- people receive feedback on suggestions and that their concerns are taken seriously
- we keep people up to date with accurate and factual information
- people have opportunities to visit at convenient times, with space and privacy.
We communicate with families
We provide people with regular and accurate information, in writing where possible. This includes:
- explaining what the service will provide
- contracts, agreements or standards
- details of how to make comments, suggestions or complaints
- details about the service and the local area
We do not sure confidential information about anyone we support without their agreement.
Working in partnership
We aim to work with families, keeping the person supported at the centre of this work. We work to identify skills and opportunities for that person. We agree roles and boundaries for each person involved. We also provide a key point of contact for family members and agree who the contact should be within the family.
How we work with families
We plan around individual people and their wishes. We make meetings with families as productive and accessible as possible so that everyone has as voice.
