We work with each person and the people important to them, to plan the right kind of support.
This helps us ensure that people can be who they want to be and get what they want from life. Using our tool ‘The Way we Work’, we plan support based around people’s individual goals.
We work with people to find out how they want to have their say in United Response. We train and support people to help us recruit staff. We now recruit half of United Response’s staff, including directors, in this way. Several service user forums have also been set up. Find out more about our inclusion work.
We are committed to working in partnership with local authorities, commissioning bodies, families and housing partners to provide people with the best possible package of support.
Good to Great
Good to Great is a project building on the way we work to give staff the tools they need to develop imaginative, person-centred methods of supporting people.
The emphasis is on freedom to work around the unique needs of people we support, rather than organisational requirements or standardised practice.
Staff from the North West division of United Response took part in a pilot programme which aimed to make supporting people easier, more efficient and most importantly, more person-centred.
Based around a core set of training tools, the pilot had a fantastic impact on the lives of people we support – and on the staff who support them.
Members of staff are leading training in all divisions, along with coaches, who are leading the work within their services.
Communication
We communicate with the people we support in the way that best suits them. We are experts in this area and have developed ways of helping people communicate whether they have mild disabilities or have very complex needs.
Over 40% of the people that we support do not speak, so it is important that we communicate with each person in a way that suits their needs best.
We run national communications training courses and pioneer approaches including intensive interaction to communicate with people with the most complex needs. We also run specialist deaf services.
