We work with a range of people, from people with mild to moderate learning disabilities who may need a few hours support per week, to people with more critical or severe needs.
Our support is always designed around each person’s individual wishes and needs.
Complex needs and autism
A large number of the people United Response supports have complex learning disabilities. 17% are on the autistic spectrum. We provide dedicated services for people with autism, accredited by the National Autistic Society (NAS), supporting people for as many or for as few hours a week as they need.
Complex needs
We have expertise in supporting people with complex needs. 32% of the people we support have behaviour which challenges. We seek to ‘actively listen’ to what the person is saying through their behaviour, using a range of communication techniques and direct observation.
Our expert practice development team continues to develop our work in this and many other areas of our work. It shares this knowledge across our services, so we can be sure that our service users receive the highest possible quality of care and support.
Learning disability and mental health
As well as 35 years’ experience of supporting people with learning disabilities, we also have over 15 years’ experience of supporting people with mental health needs. This includes supporting people with a dual diagnosis of learning disability and mental health needs.
We work with clinical partners to deliver tailor-made support, based around each person’s care management plan. Our emphasis is on recovery and where possible, we focus on early intervention to help prevent more serious problems.
Physical disability
Many of the people we support have physical disabilities in addition to their learning disability. 37% of the people we support have a physical disability.
We also support people with visual impairments and run a number of specialist services for people who are deaf or hearing impaired. 37% of the people we support have a hearing and/or visual impairment.
