Mary's story

Mary and her individualised support

Mary, aged 54, has mental health needs and has been buying in support from United Response for almost a year.

She says:

"My care co-ordinator organised for me to get my funding directly from the council. It’s coming up to a year since I’ve received my money this way.

Before, my life was terrible. I was ill all the time and lived in a flat by myself. I couldn’t go out at all. Since having more control over my support, everything has changed. I can go shopping, go out for coffee - I do lots of things.

I used to look after Ben, my dog, but needed my United Response sessional worker, Tracey, to help me clean out my hamster’s cage.

Now I do it all by myself. Life is much, much better."
