Supported housing

United Response offers support for people who are gradually moving into more independent accommodation.

The service

United Response's supported housing service provides accommodation to adults aged 18 and upwards who have experienced mental health problems.

The service is designed for people who need accommodation, who are receiving treatment or care for their mental health need. These people need to have the basic skills needed to maintain a tenancy.

The aims of the service

In providing supported housing, we want to support tenants to maintain stable tenancies. We also want to promote independence, confidence and wellbeing. Tenants are supported to manage their mental health problems within a supportive environment.

We aim to support people as they are being treated and enable people to move on when it is appropriate.

The staff team at the service aim to work with each person on an individual support plan and to work towards meeting those goals.

The staff team also works with tenants and other agencies such as the local Community Mental Health Team to find, apply and secure accommodation for people to move on to.

The support team

The support team works with each person to make develop skills and confidence. They provide practical support from the benefits system to finding out how equipment works in someone's house.

Housing support workers will also offer practical help in finding appropriate community services and social networks.

Moving on

Many people move on from supported housing to independent accommodation. Often this is approached as phases, with someone moving to a shared house with medium levels of support to a single flat with some support before progression to independent living.
