Michael's story
Michael goes to college part-time, but he has always been keen to try work. He was unsure about what job he would like as he had never worked before, but was keen to try anything.
At a local jobs fair, Michael showed an interest in applying for a job at the Odeon Cinema. We arranged an interview and Michael started his work experience placement in November 2005, working as an usher. Michael’s confidence and independence has grown each week. He has adapted well to the cinema terminology and is happy to seek advice from his colleagues and help out whenever he can.
Michael is now a valued member of the Odeon’s “cast”. He works hard and has good customer care skills, taking the time to greet each guest individually as they leave the cinema.
The cinema was impressed with his work and offered Michael a paid position in January 2006. He now travels independently to work, is able to get to the cinema alone and to find his way back to the bus station after work.
