Supported employment services
Many people with learning disabilities want to work. We work with people to help them make informed choices about their futures.
Sometimes these choices can include knowing what having a job means.
Working with people
We work with people to find out what their skills and interests are. We work to develop the skills they need, using internal and external training and resources tailored to meet people’s individual needs.
We then match what people tell us they want to do with real job opportunities – in both voluntary and paid employment.
Many people have not worked before. We help them to adjust to the changes having a job will bring to them and their carers. We make sure people take responsibility for using transport, getting to work on time and their working relationships.
We support people to do a range of work: paid, full-time or part-time, work experience, unpaid, voluntary or community.
Training
Many people need training to do the job they want. We support people to access training courses or work experience.
Types of work
For some people paid work is not an option or their choice. They may prefer volunteering or community work.
We support people to work anywhere they want to. We have supported people to work in garden centres, offices, hotels, restaurants and cafés, charity shops and many other places.
