This is a piece of paper that says how much you paid for something and the date when you paid.

Rent

You can rent a flat or a house to be your home. This means that you are paying to stay there - you do not own it yourself.

When you and the landlord have both signed the tenancy agreement, the landlord should give you a rent book, where everything you pay is written down.

Money that you put into your bank account and don't spend straight away.

Service charges

This is to do with running the building. This could be cleaning the stairs or areas that you share with other people, maintaining the lift or keeping the entry phone working.

Shared ownership

This is when you pay rent to a landlord and have a mortgage at the same time.

Standing order

You can tell your bank to pay someone every month without you needing to ring them. This is called a Standing order.

Statement

This is a piece of paper that shows you all the money that has been paid in to or taken out of your bank account, and how much you have left.

This is a written agreement between you and your landlord.

If you pay rent for your home, you are called a tenant.

Top up

This is when you add more money to your fuel card. When you top up it means you can use it to buy more gas or electricity.

A piece of paper you need to pay for to watch television. Everyone needs to have one if they have a television.

This is a card you can use to pay a bit each month, with cash or your debit card, if you have one.
