Blog Charity Softball: Ambitious Response For the second year running, United Response has joined forces with Ambitious about Autism to take on the London Charity Softball League. A quarter of the way through the first stage of the league, we - as members of Team Ambitious Response (get it?) - are feeling positive with two wins out of a possible three under our belts. But, of course, it’s not all about the winning – it’s the taking part! We’ve had great fun getting to know another team of colleagues and gained a new hobby in the process. We also have a mixture of departments within the team so it really fosters a sense of togetherness. Team Ambitious Response 2014 - pyramid style Our softball highlights so far We’ve had some - *insert movie montage* - spectacular falls, amazing catches, celebratory dance moves and even a trip to A&E last year (she was ok – just a few stitches!). As a team, we have really progressed since the first day we nervously stepped onto the pitch. Growing in confidence in our own abilities and understanding each other’s strengths has stood us in good stead. We battled miserable weather in our first game this season, against Rethink Mental Illness, to reach our first outright win. In our second game, we had a great time playing the Stroke Association but respectfully lost, and our third was a win against the Royal National Institute of Lifeboats. Ambitious Response vs the Royal National Institute of Lifeboats A great atmosphere and social perks Even though it is a competition there is always a great atmosphere and teams are respectful of each other because, ultimately, it’s about having fun. Then, of course, there’s the social side outside of the game – most teams pop out for a few celebration/commiseration drinks after the game, and there’s a big celebration for the plate and cup finals. Outside of that, we also meet up for socials as a team and even had our own awards ceremony last year. This week we are playing Scope, winners of the league in 2013, so wish us luck!Sarah Riddlestone, fundraising assistant.Fancy being part of a team of colleagues like this?
