Today is the start of the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the UK: Wimbledon.

With our head office being based in Wimbledon itself, the walk from the station to the office is now teemed with window displays bursting full of tennis balls.

But the real question on everyone’s lips is: “What will the local Morrison’s do this year?” In 2013, they changed their name from 'Morrison’s' to 'Murrisons' and, in 2014, they renamed strawberries ‘strawmurrays’. The possibilities are endless...

Strawberries are a huge part of the Wimbledon experience and have been from the beginning. This is most likely because they were in season at the same time, but it was also an era when afternoon tea was highly fashionable.

Throw a 4tea party - Wimbledon style!

The United Response 4tea party fundraiser aims to raise money for people with disabilities and mental health needs – and what better way to get involved than by serving strawberries and cream to your friends over a game of tennis?

Here’s how many afternoon tea ingredients Wimbledon gets through according to the official caterers

  • Over 2 million English strawberries – which are picked the day before, mmm fresh!

  • 150,000 scones, pastries and doughnuts

  • 300,000 cups of tea and coffee

  • 150,000 glasses of Pimm's

  • 190,000 sandwiches

  • 30,000 litres of milk

  • 7,000 litres of dairy cream

Don’t worry, you don’t have to go quite as large as Wimbledon!
