The Community Network, nestled in the heart of Cheriton High Street, run by disability charity United Response, will once again be open on Christmas Day for Folkestone residents to enjoy the festive day together.

United Response is a national charity which supports people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health needs.

The Community Network, was set up by United Response as an inclusive community resource for local people to make friends, share interests, learn new skills and have fun.

It is open to the public every day, all year round and Christmas Day is no exception.

The occasion is hosted by two members of United Response staff, with the help of people who are regularly supported by the charity.

With a Christmas buffet and wide selection of festive nibbles, as well as music, sing-songs and games, they create a sociable, party atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

This year, the day is kindly being sponsored by the Folkestone Rotary Club.

Martine Norton, United Response’s Area Manager, who hosts the occasion every year, said:

“Christmas Day can be a lonely time, whether or not you celebrate. We’re there for people who would normally be alone, as well as people supported by United Response and those who simply want to share Christmas with others. Having the opportunity to gather locally is a sociable and positive thing to do. It saves people from being alone and breaks up the day. For some, it also means they can eat well for a change.

“It’s been an open house for the last seven years and always seems to hit the spot! Each year we have new visitors as well as old friends. People can be sure to expect a warm welcome from friendly people who enjoy spending time with a real mix of individuals.”

The Community Network will be open from 11am – 3pm. It is open to people of all ages and everyone is welcome to stay for the full day or just drop in for a short time.

It is located at 378 Cheriton High Street, Folkestone, Kent.

To let Martine know you would like to attend, please give her a call on 01303 270024. Otherwise, feel free to just turn up on the day!
