A national disability charity is holding a free art exhibition for the community, featuring work by artists across Ashford.

The exhibition, organised by United Response, will be held in unit 102 in County Square, Ashford, from Thursday 14th July – Monday 18th July 2016, from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

United Response supports people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health needs to live the lives they choose.

The exhibition, now in its fourth year, will feature work by some of the people the charity supports at its supported living service in Dovedale Court. The unique show seeks to focus on their art and not their disabilities, by allowing them to be judged purely as artists.

Mike Turton, who has organised the event over the past few years, said:

“It’s all about the art, the artists and what they are expressing. We are very conscious not to be disabled-centric, but rather focus on the work those we support have created. Whole sections of society are excluded from art and creative spaces and this show offers a chance to reveal your talents whatever your ability.”

Other artists taking part range from school-age to over 70 years old, and are from a wide variety of backgrounds – some are trained professionals, some create their pieces in therapeutic or educational environments, and some will be showing their art for the first time.

Altogether, around 50 artists are involved and there will be 100 pieces of work on display, some of which will be for sale with all proceeds going directly to the artists.

Rob Stevens, United Response’s Service Manager at Dovedale Court, said:

“Over the past four years we have organised these exhibitions as inclusive community events to provide artists who live locally the opportunity to show their work outside of the usual gallery environment and in a prime town centre location.

“All the previous exhibitions have been received positively by those attending, with several of the contributors successfully selling pieces each year.”

Come along to this free event which brings together art from across the community! Please note that the exhibition will be closed on Sunday 17th July.
