On Saturday 11th April, local disability charity United Response held a community Fun Day, raising hundreds of pounds for people it supports with learning disabilities in the local area.

Over 100 people attended the event at Teddington Baptist Church, with attendees taking part in activities including a tombola, cake sale and Easter egg hunt.

People supported by the charity met with locals at the event, manning a variety of stalls including the Garden Gnome stall. This raised awareness of the Garden Gnomes volunteer group, which maintains gardens in the local area, and money raised at the stall will help fund the local enterprise and its upcoming activities.

The event was paid for by a grant from United Response’s Community Sparks programme. Funded by the Clothworkers’ Foundation, Community Sparks funds a variety of activities to strengthen relationships between disabled people and their wider community.

There was a best cake competition, which was won by the Community Support team and those they support, and even a photo booth run by professional cameramen who volunteered to help out.

The local United Response support team who organised the day are aiming to put on further activity days and events following the day’s success.

United Response Transitions Service Manager Adam Sutherland said: “It was a great event and all the people we support who attended had a wonderful day.

“Events like this showcase the hard work that our teams put in behind the scenes with the people we support and family members who came along were very complimentary of the day.”

Judith, a family member of someone supported by the charity, added: “I really enjoyed the Fun Day on Saturday a great effort had been made by everybody, both service users and staff.

“It was great to see how proud youngsters were of things they had made and it was a great opportunity to raise awareness of disability issues and who United Response are.”
