Disability charity, United Response, has published Issue 28 of its award-winning accessible news magazine, Easy News, as it receives outstanding feedback from its readership.

Easy News was first launched in 2013, in a bid to make the news easier to understand for people with a learning disability.

Over the past few months, the charity has run an online survey to find out what readers think of Easy News. 100% of the respondents answered that they find the stories interesting and easier to understand than other news or television sources.

98% of respondents answered that Easy News helps them to understand what is happening in the world.

Written in an ‘easy read’ format, using simple sentences and pictures, the bi-monthly magazine makes the news and politics more accessible for people with a learning disability.

The stories for Easy News are translated into an accessible format from the mainstream media, by a team of people employed by United Response known as UR Consultants, who have learning disabilities or autism.

Xanthe Breen, Head of Press and Fundraising at United Response, said: “We are truly delighted with the feedback we have had from our survey. Our Easy News team works hard to ensure that the magazine is always on topic and covers even the most challenging stories. It means the world to us to know that it is making a real difference to people’s lives by enabling them to engage with politics and the world around them.”

United Response is still looking for further feedback to improve Easy News and make sure that it is the best it can be for its readership.
