The Community Network, nestled in the heart of Cheriton High Street, run by disability charity United Response, is launching a ‘Community Donation Station’ to generate funds for the community.

The concept of the Donation Station is that people in the community donate goods, which can then be sold with all the proceeds going back into their community through the Community Network. It will be located in a currently empty shop at 370 Cheriton High Street, which was formerly Rob’s Fruit ‘n’ Veg.

The grand opening by the Mayor of Folkestone will take place on Saturday 20th May, from 10am – 1pm. The event promises to be great fun with music, a visit from Poppy the Troll, a tombola and refreshments. All are welcome to come along and join the fun!

The Donation Station welcomes donations of clothes, jewelry, books, bric-a-brac – anything other than electrical goods. The goods will be given a suggested price and sold to other members of the public. All proceeds raised then go back into the community by funding projects run by the Community Network, such as Community Fun Days, the Christmas Lights Switch On, race nights and more.

Helen Lawrence, from United Response, said:

“We are really excited about this new project, which will enable people to make a real difference to their own community.  The Community Network was set up by United Response as an inclusive community resource for local people to make friends, share interests, learn new skills and have fun. The aim of the donation station is to engage more people in our goal of creating a more inclusive community, while fundraising for projects which will benefit people throughout the community.”

The Donation Station will be run by some of the people supported by United Response, who have learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities or mental health needs, along with their support workers.

For a small donation, there will also be tables which can be hired by members of the public to sell their own goods in aid of the community.
