Two members of staff for national disability charity, United Response, are taking part in the International Bognor Birdman Rally on 4th September, in a Dr Who themed jump.

United Response supports people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health needs to live their lives to the full.

Robin, 39, a cleaner at United Response, and Anna, 47, a senior mental health support worker, will take on the challenge dressed as Dr Who and his assistant.

Hoping to win the Kingfisher category of the event – which is judged on costume, performance and crowd reaction – they will be jumping off the famous Bognor pier with their very own Tardis, made of Styrofoam and cardboard.

Any prizemoney the pair win will go directly to United Response, to fund the vital mental health services the charity provides in Bognor Regis.

Robin has received mental health support from United Response for several years and this is his third time taking on the challenge for the charity.

In 2013, Robin came second in the Kingfisher category and received an incredible £500, dressed as a character from Star Trek. His success continued in 2014 when he won a cup for the best comedy moment.

This time, he is looking forward to regenerating into his favourite fictional character – Dr Who.

Robin commented:

“It’s a good laugh! You get to jump off the pier whilst raising money for a great charity at the same time.”

For Anna, the event will be a new experience.

She commented:

“The International Bognor Birdman Rally is a wonderful day out for the people we support at United Response, who come down to cheer everyone on. It is also a great opportunity for us to reach the wider community, raising awareness of the mental health services we offer in Bognor Regis.”
