On Sunday, 24 champions took on the Virgin Money London Marathon on behalf of United Response.

They were undeterred by the chilly conditions as they approached the starting line of the 26.2 mile stretch. Our keen cheerers had been set up since the early hours, and soon joined by family and friends of our runners. They eagerly awaited their approach to give them an almighty roar. With over 39,000 people taking part, the atmosphere was buzzing with support.

The route wasn’t without its challenges but our runners ploughed on to the all-important finish line. Soon our post-race reception at Dukes Hotel started filling up, with runners cheered as they arrived. After a warming shower and well-deserved massage from Lucy and Nicole, students at St Mary’s University, they were able to relax with family and friends, and have some well-deserved lunch.

An inspirational team and amazing supporters

We had an inspiring bunch this year including 19 charity place runners, 3 ballot place runners and a partially sighted guide-running duo – one of only 32 this year.

We’d like to thank our wonderful team for all of their hard work, what an incredible achievement to have run the London Marathon and raised over £52,000 collectively. We are extremely proud of each and every one of them! You can read more about their inspiring stories in our Media Centre.

We’d also like to thank Duke’s Hotel for donating the use of their Marlborough Suite and, of course, St Mary’s University who kindly volunteered their time.
