Phillipa Gould from Derby is training for a 100-mile cycling challenge for United Response as she prepares for the August 2nd RideLondon event.

Phillipa is a Support Worker for United Response and will be taking part in the event to raise vital funds for the charity, having seen first-hand how fundraising efforts can make a positive difference to the people she supports.

The third Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 will set off from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park along a 100-mile route through the capital’s closed roads and into Surrey, before ending at the Mall, following the London 2012 Olympic route.

"I didn't even own a bike until this year"

Phillipa said: “Training is coming along and I am currently riding up to 30 miles regularly, which may not seem like much but it is increasing steadily.

“I take karate lessons in my spare time and have a fitness instructor who has been really supportive in helping me train. I didn’t even own a bike until this year so it will be a new challenge for me but one I am looking forward to."

So far, Phillipa has received support from family and friends, and has been following the training plan to help motivate herself ahead of the big day.

Raising much-needed funds

Despite being a first-time cyclist, Phillipa is confident about the challenge and hopes that a few more riders will join the charity’s team ahead of the 6th May sign-up deadline. She is looking forward to the crowd of supporters cheering on cyclists on the day.

Phillipa explained: “Fundraising is an important part of my motivation and will do great things for the charity, and a team of staff members and United Response supporters are also taking part.

“I hope that people will give it a go and take on a new challenge, or come and cheer us on to help raise funds for the charity’s important work across the country.”
