Donations help thriving Kent community radio station staffed by people with disabilities and autism

The station, which has listeners from as far afield as Germany, is run by The Community Network, one of our services in Folkstone.
The weekly schedule includes a variety of shows hosted by people we support including The Football Show on a Monday afternoon and ‘DJ Karl’s 80s and 90s mix’ on a Tuesday morning.
Meet DJ Karl
Karl has been DJing at the station for nearly eight months now.
He said:
I love music and Mark, who works at the Community Network, asked if I’d be interested in doing my own radio show.
I love introducing the tracks, and then listening to the tunes. I enjoy taking home the playlist to practice at home for next week’s show.
Mark who supports Karl with the show said:
Karl was very much lacking in self-confidence and needed constant reassurance.
He’s generally a man of few words so talking into a mic was a totally new experience for him.
Karl has really grown in confidence and stature since he’s been on air. He is a credit to himself for what he is achieving so a big hats-off to him.
Developing the radio station with your support
This year, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the station has been able to purchase new software programs and equipment.
The new technology makes the shows easier to produce and means they can also broaden the range of programmes on offer.

Mark said:
The new radio equipment has been a revelation.
We can do so much more now like take live on-air phone ins, add jingles, link up via Bluetooth and seamlessly stream music from other devices.
Having less wires and extra equipment has helped no end.
DJ Karl agreed:
The new equipment is so easy to use. I love fading in and out my favourite tunes.
Big thanks to those who made this possible.
You can listen to DJ Karl’s 80s and 90s mix every Tuesday from 10.30am until 11.00am plus lots of other shows at: https://urcommunitynetwork.airtime.pro
