How it all started – Fozia’s calling

With a background in law and accounting, Fozia began her career in the legal sector.

Before joining United Response, Fozia worked in a police custody setting, assisting adults with mental health challenges.

It was in these moments of support that she found her calling, a role that enabled her to truly make a difference in people’s lives.

Fozia realised that her passion lay in empowering individuals to achieve their career aspirations. This revelation set her on a new course.

Her decision to step away from the world of law and accounting into the realm of job coaching was not just a career change; it was a profound shift in perspective.

Fozia’s journey at United Response began two years ago.

For Fozia, this was a role where she could meet people from diverse backgrounds, move about, and actively contribute to their personal and professional development. This change not only enriched her career but also benefited her own health.

United Response recognised Fozia’s potential immediately, offering her the unique opportunity to become a job coach for people with learning disabilities and autism.

I’ve worked in different jobs and sectors but this is the best move I’ve ever made.

Life as a Job Coach – Fozia’s passion

Every day in the life of a job coach is different.

Fozia’s empathy and dedication have transformed her from a shy person into a confident and open professional. Meeting families of the people she supports, forging relationships with local employers, and engaging with the local council have all contributed to her growth.

The happiness she feels when she sees the individuals that she supports succeeding, is her driving force and it’s what makes her passionate about her work.

There’s never been a day where I dread going to work, every day is unique.

Making a difference – Fozia’s success story

One of the many heart-warming stories from Fozia’s journey involves a 19-year-old who had been housebound for a long time.

Lacking confidence and interaction with the outside world, this individual was very hesitant and uncertain about starting a career.

Fozia, with her unwavering commitment, met the individual and their grandmother, going out of her way to travel further than usual.

She created a unique profile, understanding their needs and interests, and built a tailored support plan.

Gradually, the individual gained confidence and started attending library sessions without their grandmother.

With Fozia’s guidance, they expressed a desire to volunteer as a library assistant. Fozia submitted an application for them to a nearby library, organised a taster session and attended the interview alongside them.

The individual excelled in the interview and volunteered until around 6 months later, when Fozia received an email notifying her that the individual had been offered a paid job!

You can train and work with them, then watch them shine bright, they have the capability.
