Getting to know United Response

From Wantage, Abingdon, Bristol, Cornwall to London I want to thank everyone who has spent time with me and told me about what you’re proud of and what needs to change to improve the services we provide to the people we support. There are plenty of highlights…

I spent time with Simon and met his massive rabbits in his beautiful home in Abingdon. And, I’ve seen just some of the talents from people we support including this beautiful artwork by Mark.

When I was in Bristol, I was lucky with the weather and able to get a small taste of life at Potters Den, painting signs for vegetables and listening to Zack, Jo and Tina talk about voting and meeting Daniel.

Then down to Cornwall and I had a chance to see the range of activities and support we offer at Boscawen Farm from fence building to animal care and I had a lovely walk with Sean, Richard and five alpacas!

I was privileged to hear from families in Cornwall. Particularly one mum who said we were providing the best care her daughter has ever received. I am keen to explore how we can involve more families in our work across the country.

What’s next

The next few weeks might include less animals but I’m equally excited to visit more services to find out about our inspiring work and hopefully to hear more about the new People’s Fund. An initiative that shifts the focus from how we can create opportunities for people to how we help people create their own opportunities.

This person focussed approach is one of our strongest assets and is exactly what we should continue to be known for.
