The People’s Fund – Grants making a big impact

At United Response, we believe everyone deserves the chance to live with independence, confidence and joy. Thanks to the Clothworker’s Foundation, our redeveloped People’s Fund is making this possible, one small grant at a time.
The People’s Fund is for people supported by United Response, who apply for funding to create their own projects promoting accessibility and self-led creativity.
This year we opened up applications directly to people we support. They told us in their own words what matters to them, and we listened. The results have been amazing.
- £37,000 awarded across 22 applications
- Grants that covered everything from essential home items and mobility support to creative projects, holidays and personal passions.
Here’s how some of the people we support are feeling the positive impact:
Tom’s New Home
Tom has just moved into his own bungalow with support from United Response. The People’s Fund helped him buy essentials like furniture and white goods, making his bungalow feel like home from the very first day.
Able’s Adventure

Able, a music fan, used his grant to make a long-awaited holiday to Ibiza possible.
“I’m really excited about going on a trip to Ibiza with my brother. We’ll be staying for eight days, and I can’t wait to fly on a plane all the way there! My brother is funding his own part of the trip, and the People’s Fund is helping me cover my costs.”
Andrew’s newfound freedom
Andrew received funding for an electric wheelchair, giving him more independence in his community. “With my new electric wheelchair, I’ll have much more independence and freedom to get out on my own.”
Liv’s music career

Liv, a singer-songwriter from York, gained funding for equipment and merchandise. With the support of her job coach, Chris, and Andy who supports as a recording engineer/producer she has already got several releases under her belt and is planning lots more, as well as building her music career.
“The funding means I can take my songs and career further, through recordings, raising my profile and merchandise.”
United Response Involvement and Engagement Manager, Nikki Jones, said: “The People’s Fund is about giving people real choice and control over their lives. It’s a powerful way to support independence and wellbeing, whether that’s through learning a new skill, purchasing essential equipment, or simply doing something that sparks joy. What’s most important is that it puts the decision-making in the hands of the people we support, and that’s exactly where it should be.”
Small grant, big impact
The People’s Fund is proof that a little support goes a long way. We will be announcing our next round of funding over the coming months, along with details on how to apply.
