Dovedale Court: at a glance

The service provides support to 10 men and women with complex learning and physical disabilities.

Set in a residential area, with both on- and off-road parking, a 10-minute walk from Ashford town centre and a 5-minute drive from Ashford International train station.

We support people to be as independent as possible, involving them in meal planning, preparation and shopping, as well as keeping their home clean.

Dovedale Court: the property

All of the 10 self-contained flats have a bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom. The two vacant flats are situated on the first floor, therefore some mobility is required.

There is a single storey activity centre in the grounds, where people meet and spend time together socialising. This is divided into three areas:

• A sensory room, which has large floor cushions, a projector and things such as a water bubble feature.

• The main room is used for craft work and music sessions.

• A small side room, which is used by those who are more sensitive to noise and crowds. This room has a computer and various learning materials.

There is an enclosed garden, a courtyard, some flower beds, several areas of lawn and a car park.

There are two sleep-in rooms for staff to provide overnight assistance, maintaining continuous care and support whenever it is needed.

Dovedale Court: support services

Our support team make use of a range of complementary approaches and tools when delivering good support including; Person Centred Thinking tools, Active Support, Positive Behaviour Support and Person-Centred Planning and Reviews.

Our person-centred support planning framework, ‘The Way We Work’, enables us to design flexible support plans in line with individual requirements.

We value and seek input from numerous stakeholders, whether this be family, health professionals, social care professionals or outside agencies.

We have learnt that it is critical that these various stakeholders work together in the background in a holistic way so that the various needs of the individual can be met in a way that promotes independence but also ensures safety in their own home, with their support team, their relationships and their community.

The care service has been developed and designed with best practice guidance. These values include choice, promotion of independence and inclusion.

People with learning disabilities and autism using the service can live as ordinary a life as any citizen.
