Vision

Our aim is to develop and embed internally and externally a community based high quality education, skills and employment provision which actively values not only the lives of children and young people with SEND, but the value of lifelong learning for all people with disabilities.

Mission

To deliver personalised education programmes and provide the relevant support to enable young people and adults to progress, and be challenged whilst promoting and building on independence to achieve citizenship

Values

We are committed to improving the lives of the people we support. We do this chiefly through our person-centred approach, which puts people at the centre of all our activity – whether that’s day-to-day support or advocacy on matters that affect them.

We respect and promote the rights of every person we support. As such, we campaign around issues that are important to and for them – in our own right, as well as members of Natspec a member association for organisation’s which offer specialist further education and training for students with learning disabilities and/or disabilities aged 16 to 25.

In line with United Response’s values and the Equality Act 2010, ROC College does not discriminate against anyone on the grounds of age, sex, race, religion and belief, marriage and civil partnership, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, sexual orientation or disability.

In view of the values United Response holds, ROC College intends to:

  • Uphold and promote our belief that all students have the right to be treated with dignity and that each of us has a responsibility to treat others with respect
  • Work together with students, our colleagues and all partners and community groups to establish practices which express our values of diversity
  • Endeavour to ensure that our facilities, resources and services are responsive, relevant and accessible to all who wish to access them
  • Create and sustain environments which encourage both the students and our colleagues to develop to their full potential.

British Values

The college promotes Fundamental British values through ensuring that curriculum planning and delivery includes suitable opportunities for exploring and embedding these values.

There is planned approach towards this delivery through the ‘Word of the Week’ which is identified on daily lesson plans by staff, who plan appropriate activities according to student needs. Words that are discussed and explored across the academic year include:

  • Religion
  • Fair
  • Choice
  • Law
  • Government
  • Rules
  • Culture
  • Difference
  • Love
  • Justice
  • Consent

Examples of the understanding and knowledge students are expected to learn include:

  • An understanding of how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process.
  • An understanding that the freedom to hold other faiths and beliefs is protected in law.
  • An acceptance that people having different faiths or beliefs to oneself (or having none) should be accepted and tolerated, and should not be the cause of prejudicial or discriminatory behaviour.
  • An understanding of the importance of identifying and combatting discrimination.
