Easy News: 24-Hour Bus passes for disabled passengers

   Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said that, from next April, disability bus passes can be used all day and night.

2. 

   Right now, many bus passes only work during the day time. They only let people travel from 9:30 in the morning to 11 at night.

3. 

   The Prime Minister said that it's “simply not right” that bus passes only work some of the time.

4. 

   Some disabled people are given Bus Passes by the government. The Bus passes let them ride on buses for free.

5. 

   This is meant to make things more fair. Disabilities can make it harder to move around, or make it more expensive to live, or harder to find a job.

6. 

   When he was Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham made bus passes work all of the time for people living there. Other local governments have done the same thing.

7. 

   After April 2027 it will be nation-wide. Any disabled person with a bus pass will be able to travel all the time, no matter where they live.

8. 

   The government will spend £60 million on the scheme.

9. 

   £40 million will come from the Government Department for work, and £20 million will come from the Government Department for Transport.

10. 

    This will have to be voted through by MPs in Parliament.

11. 

    Local Councils will have time to prepare for it.

12. 

    The government say this will help disabled people do more things like go to jobs or school.
