Easy News: New report shows people with learning disabilities still dying too young despite small drop in avoidable deaths.

   A new report is sharing information about the deaths of people with learning disabilities.

   The people who wrote the report looked into deaths between the years 2021 and 2024.

   They looked at people with learning disabilities who died in England.

4. 

   The report says that more than half of adults with learning disabilities die before they are 65 years old.

5. 

   It says that people with learning disabilities died about 19 years younger than the general population.

   This is a high number compared to the general population.

   The report says that some people died from conditions that could have been helped with treatments.

   It also said that deaths from treatable conditions are lower than they were 3 years ago.

   The government have said healthcare for people with learning disabilities is already being improved.

    And that they will do “all they can”.

    They said they will help people to be healthier before they get very sick.

    And that they will focus on training doctors to make sure people with learning disabilities go to their annual health checks.

    The government has said that over five million people who work in healthcare have been trained on learning disabilities.

    They also said there are new tools and things in place to help make healthcare better.

    NHS England said it will make it clearer to doctors when someone needs reasonable adjustments.

    The report is called LeDeR and is from the NHS England Learning Disabilities Mortality Review.
