   Andy Burnham announces plans to change benefits and social care

   The Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said he will change the Benefits system, especially Personal Independence Payments (PIP). PIP is when the government gives money to disabled people to help with the added costs of being disabled.

   Andy Burnham worries that PIP costs too much.

   He also thinks that it takes too long to get.

5. 

   Andy Burnham will tell everyone how he wants to change PIP in autumn 2026 ready to start changes in 2027.

   We don't know yet how Andy Burnham will want to change PIP.

   Andy Burnham has also said he wants to make social care better. Social care helps people who need support with daily living, independence, and wellbeing.

   He said that badly run social care is hurting the NHS because people who have nowhere else to go are being kept in hospital.

   He also said it is not fair to unpaid carers. Unpaid carers are people who care for loved ones without being paid.

    Andy Burnham suggests a National Care Service. A National Care Service could run social care in partnership with the NHS.

    A National Care Service would try to help disabled people be more independent for longer

    Andy Burnham said that he wants social care workers to have better pay and job opportunities.

    He said a National Care Service must be properly funded, and able to work without running out of money.
