Develop creative, technical and employability skills in a supportive, professional media environment.

Based on North Street near York city centre, the Education and Media Service gives young people access to professional cameras, lighting and sound equipment, a sound booth and industry-standard editing software.

Who is the service for?

The service is for young people aged 16–25 who have a current Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

We support young people with learning disabilities, autistic young people and young people with mental health needs. Each learner receives a programme tailored to their individual needs, interests and aspirations.

What can learners do?

Learners gain practical experience and develop skills across a range of creative and technical subjects, including:

– Film production.

– Coding and computer game design.

– Radio and podcast production.

– Music & studio engineering.

– Photography.

– Graphic design.

– Multi-Media Art.

– Writing.

– Animation.

Alongside their chosen media sessions, learners can develop independent living and employability skills, with support in English and Maths where required.

Learner outcomes

Learners have used the skills developed with us to create their own YouTube channels and podcasts, undertake freelance photography and editing work, gain employment and continue studying media related subjects at college or university.
