Zac has always been incredibly passionate about music and dreamed of becoming a singer — and now, he’s taking exciting steps towards making that dream a reality.

With hands-on experience as part of a Supported Internship, Zac is turning his passion into progress and going from strength to strength on his music journey.

Finding his place in the music world

Zac has been interning at Cameron Mills Group, an organisation that specialises in supporting young people to explore opportunities in music. Whether that’s booking and performing gigs, being a part of podcasts, or broadcasting from their in-house radio station.

During his time there, Zac has taken on a range of responsibilities including advertising, booking performances, scheduling and designing posters. His friendly attitude and eagerness to help out wherever he’s needed have not gone unnoticed, and he is already a much-loved part of the working team at his placement.

The Cameron Mills Group shared some positive feedback, saying:
“Zac has been a pleasure to have on the team and he grows more a part of it each day. We are so grateful for his support.”

Stepping into the spotlight

One of Zac’s biggest milestones so far was performing his first solo gig last year, supported by family and colleagues. It was a proud moment, with plenty of praise given for his performance, especially from everyone who has worked by his side throughout his internship.

He followed this up with another performance at Quay West, Paignton, which was another success.

Since then, Zac has continued to build his range as a musical performer by attending local open mic nights in Seaton every fortnight.

Zac reflected on how much has changed, noting:
“Five years ago, I wouldn’t have been able to do this. Now I am progressing daily to become completely independent.”

Looking ahead

Zac’s Job Tutor, Nathaniel, has seen him come a long way since those early days, saying:

“When I first met Zac, he was hesitant to do anything without assistance. The fact that he has now gone out of his way to attend open mics independently is groundbreaking, and I’m incredibly proud of his progress.”

When thinking of his career, Zac has his sights set on becoming a full-time musician. However, he’s also shown interest in supporting the wider music industry behind the scenes, whether that’s through promoting artists or working as an agent.

With his endless drive and experience to match, Zac is already well on his way to carving out a future in the music industry on his own terms.
